LONDON : OUR SPIRITUAL HOME


For over 20 years, Morris+Company has based its operations in London’s east end. During this period of steady growth, we have occupied a variety of spaces; in converted warehouses, above shops, and in basements, often sharing desk space with others. But irrespective of location, our studio space has always represented a home from home. A place of exchange, a spiritual base for ideas, dialogue, creative endeavour, of innovation and exploration.


In 2022 we relocated to new premises, further east into the beating heart of Hackney, London’s truly creative district. Occupying a Victorian former fashion showroom, and distributed across three interconnected floors, our new studio is deeply representative of practice culture. Spatially generous, publicly accessible, purposefully organised, and realised through circular design principles.

215 Mare Street places community front and centre it is a workplace, a venue for events, a workshop for production and experiment. It co-hosts other businesses and creatives and exemplifies Morris+Company’s cultural philosophy of fairness, support, mentorship and awareness; a House of Ideas.

Aberfeldy New Masterplan wins Pineapple Award for Community Engagement In July we won the Pineapple Award for Community Engagement with EcoWorld London, Poplar HARCA, Levitt Bernstein, ZCD ARCHITECTS LTD and LDA Design for the Aberfeldy New Masterplan.
Aberfledy Stories On 30th June we attended the launch of the 'Aberfeldy Stories' exhibition, which features portraits of residents, business owners and community leaders, shot by local photographer J C Candanedo. The display also included information about our work on the Aberfeldy New Masterplan
Camden Design Awards Our R7 workplace, for Related Argent in the northern quarter of the King’s Cross regeneration scheme, was a winner at the Camden Design Award 2022 in the Major Projects Category.
Footprint+ Conference 2022 On 9th June David attended the FOOTPRINT+ Conference 2022, where he joined a panel entitled "Repurposing existing buildings to save embodied carbon", which explored two contrasting approaches to retrofit through our projects North Crescent and Royal Street.
TVC topping out ceremony Celebrating with a "Kagami-biraki" ceremony at the topping out of the new Plot D Television Centre.
LFA Studio Late On 17th June we opened our new studio in Hackney to visitors, as part of the London Festival of Architecture's Studio Lates series. This event gave an insight into our journey of designing around the principals of sustainable strategies for re-use, recycling and flexibility.
"Can architects make a difference?" On 7th June Joe took part in a debate at the Royal Academy of Arts titled "Can architects make a difference?". The event interrogated the collision of architecture and activism, to try to understand what impact architects can really have on the places they design for.
R3 Shortlisted for a Pineapple Award Sugar House Island has been shortlisted for the "Pineapple for Place in Progress" in the Developer's Pineapple Awards 2022.
Belle Vue wins RIBA Regional Award BelleVue was one of 42 projects to receive an RIBA London Regional Award this year.
Architecture on Stage: Morris+Company On 25th April Joe gave a lecture at Barbican Centre, as part of the The Architecture Foundation series "Architecture on Stage". He explored the issues facing contemporary practice, through our building projects and a reflection on the structural makeup of our studio culture.
Tour of the Design District In April we took a trip to the new Design District in North Greenwich, where we were given a tour by Hannah from HNNA and Lynton from Architecture 00.
International Women's Day 2022 From the Support Team to the Parts 1s and 2s, and the Architects, Project Architects, Senior Architects, Associates, Associate Directors and Directors, we want to ensure that the work of all the women at Morris+Company is both valued and celebrated.
Leaving Underwood Street We moved into our Underwood St studio space in 2012, a space that created that allowed us to explore our methods, to support ideas, and nurture talent. 10 years later we bid farewell, as we move our operations to a new HQ, in the heart of the creative district of Hackney.

Model iterations Exploring design through iterative models
Model development The process of making physical models can help all members of the team to engage more directly with a developing design, testing and re-testing it.
Photography at Morris+Company Photography is an essential part of our design process; we observe our work predominantly through a photographer’s lens, capturing the model making journey, construction phases and completed buildings that are in use.
Christmas Party, 2019 We gathered in a pop-up in Hackney, to celebrate the year and the growth of the practice.

Super Crit In 2019 we launched the 'Super Crit', a forum to invite our practice and external commentators to review a project and open a dialogue about our practice, processes and design.

Feeding the City At our event 'Feeding the City' we worked with SUPERNATURE X SITE to ensure that the food provided matched the ethos of the talk.
