Joe started up as Joe Morris Architects in May 2004, co-founded Duggan Morris Architects in October 2004, and now directs Morris+Company, an evolution of the two earlier practices.

He takes a strategic design lead on every project undertaken by the company, working at the early stages to develop the concept through hand sketching with the team, and carefully honing design solutions to respond to the specific requirements of the brief. Joe considers carefully the physical context of every given site, interpreting its historic narratives and particular qualities of space and light into appropriate forms and materials – all the time balancing these against economic constraints and market demands. Joe reviews all design work at key project stages, guiding the direction of travel as the project is implemented so that the conceptual logic of the design is carried through into the completed architecture. He has been instrumental in the design of many of the practice’s most well-known projects, including Ortus, Brentford Lock West, Richmond Adult Community College, and R7, a mixed-use development within the Kings Cross regeneration area.

Joe is an advocate for fair and transparent practice, and champions inclusivity and equality at Morris+Company. He believes in open dialogue and critical debate, encouraging the broader company to take ownership of projects and develop their own careers and interests. Joe also believes in the potential for a more compassionate, sustainable global economy and seeks to raise awareness of these issues. He follows a strict vegan diet and advocates for others to do the same.

Joe travels widely to represent the practice, lecturing on the work of the studio in many leading UK universities, as well as in Barcelona, Liege and Copenhagen. He has taught at the Bartlett and has been a visiting examiner at Plymouth and Oxford Brookes universities, and he is currently a member of the staff faculty at the Universidad de Navvara in Spain. Joe has also contributed to a number of local authority design review panels, including Lewisham, Brent and, currently, Southwark.

Joe graduated from the University of Greenwich in 1993 with first class honours and received his postgraduate diploma from The Bartlett School of Architecture in 1996, before qualifying as an architect with the Bartlett in 1999.
